Diverter Type Valves
Jandy valves are designed so that you can glue a pipe to the inside of the valve port or a fitting to the outside of the port.   The 1.5 x 2.0" valve takes a 1.5" pipe on the inside of the port or a 2.0" fitting on the outside of the port. This design makes the valve body re-usable if you have to cut it out and replumb it.  The Jandy, Compool, and Hayward valves all operate in a similar fashion.
